What blood pressure reading is considered high?
My GP said my blood pressure was 145/92 and wants me to monitor it at home. Is this really high?

Blood pressure is recorded as 2 numbers: systolic (the higher number, pressure when heart pushes blood out) and diastolic (lower number, pressure when heart rests). High blood pressure is considered to be 140/90mmHg or higher. Ideal blood pressure is between 90/60 and 120/80. Your reading of 145/92 is in the Stage 1 hypertension range.

I had similar readings last year. My GP put me on a home monitoring routine — twice a day for a week. Turns out my readings at the GP were higher due to white coat syndrome. My average at home was 132/85. Worth doing the home monitoring before worrying too much.
