I am 28 and have a family history of heart disease. My dad had a heart attack at 52. Should I be worried?

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the main causes of death and disability in the UK. Risk factors include smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, being overweight, lack of exercise, and family history of heart disease. The NHS Health Check programme offers free checks to adults aged 40-74.

While heart attacks are far more common in older adults, they can and do happen in younger people, especially with family history. With your dad having a heart attack at 52, you should ask your GP for a cardiovascular risk assessment. This includes checking cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar, and lifestyle factors. Early prevention is incredibly effective.
