Since I raised concerns about broken machinery, my employer has stopped giving me shifts. I am on a zero-hours contract.

What you are describing is likely unlawful detriment for raising health and safety concerns. Under Section 44 of the Employment Rights Act 1996, workers are protected from being subjected to any detriment (including loss of shifts) for raising legitimate health and safety concerns. This protection applies regardless of your employment status or contract type, including zero-hours contracts. You can bring a claim to an Employment Tribunal. You do NOT need 2 years service for this type of claim. Contact ACAS immediately: 0300 123 1100. Also report the broken machinery to HSE: 0300 003 1647.
