What is the difference between eczema and psoriasis?
I have red, itchy patches on my elbows and knees. My GP is not sure if it is eczema or psoriasis. How can I tell?

Eczema (atopic dermatitis) causes skin to become itchy, dry, cracked, and sore. It often occurs on the inside of elbows, behind knees, and on the face. Psoriasis produces flaky patches of skin that form silvery-white scales. It commonly appears on elbows, knees, scalp, and lower back. The key visual difference is that psoriasis patches tend to be thicker with silvery scales, while eczema is thinner and more likely to weep.

I have psoriasis on my elbows and it took 3 GP visits to get a proper diagnosis. If your GP is unsure, ask for a dermatology referral. A dermatologist can usually tell immediately just by looking at it. In the meantime, keep the area moisturised — I use Cerave cream twice a day and it helps a lot.
