Can I access the NHS if I am on a work visa in the UK?

I am on a Skilled Worker visa. Do I have to pay to see a GP? I am scared to use the NHS in case it affects my visa.

If you are living and working legally in the UK (including Skilled Worker visa, Student visa, PSW visa, or any visa where you paid the Immigration Health Surcharge), you are entitled to FULL NHS services including: - GP registration and appointments (FREE) - Hospital treatment (FREE) - A&E treatment (FREE for everyone, regardless of immigration status) - Mental health services (FREE) - Prescriptions (with valid exemption or 9.90 per item) Using the NHS will NOT affect your visa status. Your health data is not shared with the Home Office. Please register with a local GP — you do not need proof of address or immigration documents to register.

This is an important workplace health question. Based on the information above, we recommend speaking with your GP if you have health concerns and contacting HSE (0300 003 1647) if your employer is not meeting their legal obligations. Keep written records of all incidents and communications. Please note: this is general health information, not a substitute for professional medical advice.
