I have had a blocked nose for months. Could it be more than a cold?

A persistently blocked nose can be caused by several conditions: nasal polyps (non-cancerous growths), a deviated septum, chronic sinusitis, or allergies. If it has lasted more than 3 months and is not responding to treatment, your GP should consider an ENT referral. A one-sided blockage that does not improve should always be investigated.

I had this exact issue — turned out to be nasal polyps. My GP referred me to ENT, they did a nasal endoscopy (not painful, just uncomfortable for 10 seconds), and I started on a steroid nasal spray. Cleared up within 6 weeks. Push for a referral if your GP just keeps suggesting decongestants.
